Farmer for a Day (KBHFF)

Try a day as a farmer with KBHFF

This summer, KBHFF connects city-dwellers with our farmers by helping out with the work that needs to be done in order for our produce to grow.
It can be helping out with removing weeds from the crops, planting, nurturing, bringing good vibes and getting to know our producers and their farms.

We will visit 3 farms 3 times each on 9 Saturdays from May to August.
The farms are Mortens Have, Drys and Stensbølgård.

Find out more about them below.

About the farmers

Stensbølsgaard:

Stensbølgård is a family-run organic farm that is currently run by Kirsten and Johan. The farm is located in the beautiful Hornsherred in Lejre municipality in the small village of Kyndeløse - between Roskilde Fjord and Isefjorden. To make everyday life work at Stensbølgård, Johan and Kirsten get a helping hand from the farm employees. Together they lovingly take care of the farm's approximately 45 organic cows with calves, heifers and bulls, 600 organic chickens in mobile chicken coops and cultivate, look after and graze approximately 120 hectares of Zealand organic farmland. At Stensbølgård we grow bread grains and protein crops.

The farm also grows approximately 5 hectares of vegetables. Between 50 and 100 different types of vegetables and herbs are grown throughout the season. We make our own seedlings in the farm's greenhouse tunnel and over the summer it is filled with tomatoes, chilies and herbs. The farm has a farm shop where vegetables, eggs and beef from the farm's animals are sold.

Most vegetables are harvested and delivered directly to consumers, canteens, schools and restaurants. In order to deliver super fresh and tasty quality, the vegetables are harvested and delivered the same day. It makes a difference that the vegetables are fresh - you can taste and smell them - and they are not wrapped. It is important for the family to deliver fresh, quality vegetables - regardless of appearance and size. In our farm shop you will of course find the freshly harvested vegetables every day.

 Drys ØKO:

"At Drys, we operate a diverse, organic vegetable farm at Grantoftegaard in Ballerup. On just under one hectare, we grow over 150 different varieties of vegetables and work to create communities around caring and local food production. As a community-based farm, we offer shares of the harvest and invite people to become part of a solidarity collaboration that supports local organic small-scale farming. We have always dreamed of growing food for a village: the vegetables are harvested in the morning and end up on the table of the locals the same evening. Although our members are geographically dispersed, we are a village in spirit
– a community around food that binds us together.

We collaborate with local producers such as Verner from Bellingehus Frugtplantage, Ole from Nørby’s Grøntsager and the family-owned Bælgkompagniet to ensure that our customers get varied and exciting raw materials. Our chefs, Amalie and Flora, transform the week’s harvest into delicious plant-based dishes that inspire healthy and super delicious cooking.

Our goal is to grow food that is consumed locally – while creating a closer relationship between our customers and our farm. We want to give people the opportunity to get out into the fields, feel the soil and experience where their food comes from."
